RESUMO

PURPOSE: To introduce anterior peri-sacroiliac joint osteotomy (APSJO) through the lateral-rectus approach (LRA) for treating pelvic fracture malunion and nonunion, and to evaluate the safety, feasibility, and potential effectiveness. METHODS: Data of 15 patients with pelvic fracture malunion and nonunion who underwent treatment by APSJO were selected and analyzed. The reduction quality was assessed using the Mears and Velyvis criteria, while the pre-operative and post-operative function was revealed by the Majeed scoring system. The British Medical Research Council (BMRC) grading system was recruited for the evaluation of lumbosacral plexus function. RESULTS: The average operative duration was 264.00 ± 86.75 min, while the intra-operative blood loss was 2000 (600, 3000) mL. Anatomical reduction was complete in three cases, satisfactory in ten cases, and unsatisfactory in two cases. Among the seven patients with lumbosacral plexus injury, the pre-operative Majeed grades were good in two cases, fair in two cases, and poor in three cases, while the post-operative Majeed grades were excellent in three cases, good in three cases, and fair in one case. Muscle strength recovered to M5 in two cases, M4 in three cases, and showed no recovery in two cases. The pre-operative Majeed grades were good in five cases, fair in two cases, and poor in one case of the series without lumbosacral plexus injury, while the post-operative Majeed grades were excellent in seven cases and good in one case. CONCLUSION: APSJO through LRA may be a feasible strategy for treating pelvic fracture malunion and nonunion with promising application.

Background: Skin wounds are a prevalent issue that can have severe health consequences if not treated correctly. Nanozymes offer a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of skin wounds, owing to their advantages in regulating redox homeostasis to reduce oxidative damage and kill bacteria. These properties make them an effective treatment option for skin wounds. However, most of current nanozymes lack the capability to simultaneously address inflammation, oxidative stress, and bacterial infection during the wound healing process. There is still great potential for nanozymes to increase their therapeutic functional diversity and efficacy. Methods: Herein, copper-doped hollow mesopores cerium oxide (Cu-HMCe) nanozymes with multifunctional of antioxidant, antimicrobial and pro-vascularity is successfully prepared. Cu-HMCe can be efficiently prepared through a simple and rapid solution method and displays sound physiological stability. The biocompatibility, pro-angiogenic, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties of Cu-HMCe were assessed. Moreover, a full-thickness skin defect infection model was utilized to investigate the wound healing capacity, as well as anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic properties of nanozymes in vivo. Results: Both in vitro and in vivo experiments have substantiated Cu-HMCe's remarkable biocompatibility. Moreover, Cu-HMCe possesses potent antioxidant enzyme-like catalytic activity, effectively clearing DPPH radicals (with a scavenging rate of 80%), hydroxyl radicals, and reactive oxygen species. Additionally, Cu-HMCe exhibits excellent antimicrobial and pro-angiogenic properties, with over 70% inhibition of both E. coli and S. aureus. These properties collectively promote wound healing, and the wound treated with Cu-HMCe achieved a closure rate of over 90% on the 14th day. Conclusion: The results indicate that multifunctional Cu-HMCe with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and pro-angiogenic properties was successfully prepared and exhibited remarkable efficacy in promoting wound healing. This nanozymes providing a promising strategy for skin repair.

The leakage of the electronic current of a laser diode (LD) has some significant influences on the performance of the LD. In this study, commercial simulation software LASTIP is used to numerically evaluate the performances of LDs by using different wavelengths and Al contents of the electron blocking layer (EBL). These LDs a adopt multilayer structure, which contains cladding layers, waveguide layers, multiple quantum well layers, contact layers and an AlxGa1-xN EBL. The influence mechanism of EBL is theoretically examined by analyzing the simulated performances. It is found that for short-wavelength violet LDs, the electrical and optical properties of the LD will reach the optimum state when the Al content (x) in the EBL is nearly 0.25. For long-wavelength green LDs, it will achieve optimum electrical and optical properties when the Al content in the EBL is as low as possible. We also compare the simulation results of LDs with emission wavelengths in the range of violet and green, including blue cyan, for a more general evaluation. According to the simulated results, it is verified that the influence of the EBL's Al content on LD performance enhances as the wavelength increases.

Aim: To investigate the current status of experience and support of nurses as second victims and explore its related factors in nurses. Design: A sequential, explanatory, mixed-method study was applied. Methods: A total of 406 nurses from seven tertiary hospitals in China were chosen as participants between September to October 2023. The Chinese version of the Second Victim Experience and Support Questionnaire (SVEST), Somatic Complaints of Sub-health Status Questionnaire (SCSSQ) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) were applied to collect quantitative data. Eight nurses were selected for a qualitative study through in-depth interviews. Through interpretive phenomenological analysis, the interview data were analysed to explore the experience and support of nurses as second victims. Results: Practice distress (15.74 ± 4.97) and psychological distress (15.48 ± 3.74) were the highest dimensions, indicating Chinese nurses experienced second victim-related practice and psychological distress. Nurses with different gender, age, education, marital status, income, working hours, professional titles, and unit types have different levels of second victim-related experience and support (p < 0.05). In addition, the score of SVEST was positively associated with SCSSQ (r = 0.444) and GAD-7 (r = 0.490) (p < 0.05). This qualitative study found that the experience and support of nurses as second victims included nurses' perceptions and needs for patient safety events; psychological, physical and practice distress of nurses; and nurses and hospitals coping style after patient safety events. Discussion: Our findings suggest that nurses who are second victims of patient safety events experience severe practice and psychological distress, indicating that nursing managers should pay attention to psychological and practice distress of nurses after patient safety events and provide effective preventive measures.

Smart textiles with multifunction and highly stable performance are essential for their application in wearable electronics. Despite the advancement of various smart textiles through the decoration of conductive materials on textile surfaces, improving their stability and functionality remains a challenging topic. In this study, we developed an ionic textile (i-textile) with air permeability, water resistance, UV resistance, and sensing capabilities through in situ photopolymerization of ionogel onto the textile surface. The i-textile presents air permeability comparable to that of bare textile while possessing enhanced UV resistance. Remarkably, the i-textile maintains excellent electrical properties after washing 20 times or being subjected to 300 stretching cycles at 30% tension. When applied to human joint motion detection, the i-textile-based sensors can effectively distinguish joint motion based on their sensitivity and response speed. This research presents a novel method for developing smart textiles that further advances wearable electronics.

Purpose: Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a promising treatment for oligometastatic disease in bone because of its delivery of high dose to target tissue and minimal dose to surrounding tissue. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy and toxicity of this treatment in patients with previously unirradiated oligometastatic bony disease. Methods and Materials: In this prospective phase II trial, patients with oligometastatic bone disease, defined as ≤3 active sites of disease, were treated with SBRT at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center between December 2016 and May 2019. SBRT dose and fractionation regimen were not protocol mandated. Local progression-free survival, progression-free survival, prostatic specific antigen progression, and overall survival were reported. Treatment-related toxicity was also reported. Results: A total of 98 patients and 126 lesions arising from various tumor histologies were included in this study. The median age of patients enrolled was 72.8 years (80.6% male, 19.4% female). Median follow-up was 26.7 months. The most common histology was prostate cancer (68.4%, 67/98). The most common dose prescriptions were 27/30 Gy in 3 fractions (27.0%, 34/126), 30 Gy in 5 fractions (16.7%, 21/126), or 30/35 Gy in 5 fractions (16.7%, 21/126). Multiple doses per treatment regimen reflect dose painting employing the lower dose to the clinical target volume and higher dose to the gross tumor volume. Four patients (4.1%, 4/98) experienced local progression at 1 site for each patient (3.2%, 4/126). Among the entire cohort, 2-year local progression-free survival (including death without local progression) was 84.8%, 2-year progression-free survival (including deaths as well as local, distant, and prostatic specific antigen progression) was 47.5%, and 2-year overall survival was 87.3%. Twenty-six patients (26.5%, 26/98) developed treatment-related toxicities. Conclusions: Our study supports existing literature in showing that SBRT is effective and tolerable in patients with oligometastatic bone disease. Larger phase III trials are necessary and reasonable to determine long-term efficacy and toxicities.

OBJECTIVES: This meta-analysis focused on systematically assessing the clinical value of mNGS for infection in hematology patients. METHODS: We searched for studies that assessed the clinical value of mNGS for infection in hematology patients published in Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CNKI from inception to August 30, 2023. We compared the detection positive rate of pathogen for mNGS and conventional microbiological tests (CMTs). The diagnostic metrics, antibiotic adjustment rate and treatment effective rate were combined. RESULTS: Twenty-two studies with 2325 patients were included. The positive rate of mNGS was higher than that of CMT (blood: 71.64% vs. 24.82%, P < 0.001; BALF: 89.86% vs. 20.78%, P < 0.001; mixed specimens: 82.02% vs. 28.12%, P < 0.001). The pooled sensitivity and specificity were 87% (95%CI: 81-91%) and 59% (95%CI: 43-72%), respectively. The reference standard/neutropenia and research type/reference standard may be sources of heterogeneity in sensitivity and specificity, respectively. The pooled antibiotic adjustment rate according to mNGS was 49.6% (95% CI: 41.8-57.4%), and the pooled effective rate was 80.9% (95% CI: 62.4-99.3%). CONCLUSION: mNGS has high positive detection rates in hematology patients. mNGS can guide clinical antibiotic adjustments and improve prognosis, especially in China.

Purpose: There are limited data regarding outcomes after stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for femur metastases, which was an exclusion criteria for the Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy for the Comprehensive Treatment of Oligometastatic Cancers (SABR-COMET) trial. We aimed to characterize clinical outcomes from a large single institution experience. Methods and Materials: Forty-eight patients with 53 lesions were consecutively treated with femur SBRT from May 2017 to June 2022. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard models were used to characterize time-to-event endpoints and associations between baseline factors and clinical outcomes, respectively. Local control and locoregional control were defined as the absence of tumor progression within the radiation treatment field or within the treated femur, respectively. Results: Most patients had Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0 to 1 (90%), prostate (52%) or breast/lung (17%) cancer, and 1 to 3 lesions (100%), including 29 proximal and 5 distal. Fifty-seven percent of the lesions were treated with concurrent systemic therapy. Median planning target volume was 49.1 cc (range, 6.6-387 cc). Planning target volume V100 (%) was 99% (range, 90-100). Fractionation included 18 to 20 Gy/1F, 27 to 30 Gy/3F, and 28.5-40 Gy/5F. Forty-two percent had Mirels score ≥7 and most (94%) did not have extraosseous extension. Acute toxicities included grade 1 fatigue (15%), pain flare (7.5%), nausea (3.8%), and decreased blood counts (1.9%). Late toxicities included fracture (1.9%) at 1.5 years and osteonecrosis (4%) from dose of 40 Gy in 5F and 30 Gy in 5F (after prior 30 Gy/10F). One patient (2%) required fixation postradiation for progressive pain. With median follow-up 19.4 months, 1- and 2-year rates of local control were 94% and 89%, locoregional control was 83% and 67%, progression-free survival were 56% and 25%, and overall survival were 91% and 73%. Fifty percent of local regional recurrence events occurred within 5 cm of gross tumor volume. Conclusions: Femur SBRT for oligometastatic disease control in well-selected patients was associated with good outcomes with minimal rates of acute and late toxicity. Patterns of local regional recurrence warrant consideration of larger elective volume coverage. Additional prospective study is needed.

Drought stress is a major abiotic factor affecting tomato production and fruit quality. However, the genes and metabolites associated with tomato responses to water deficiency and rehydration are poorly characterized. To identify the functional genes and key metabolic pathways underlying tomato responses to drought stress and recovery, drought-susceptible and drought-tolerant inbred lines underwent transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses. A total of 332 drought-responsive and 491 rehydration-responsive core genes were robustly differentially expressed in both genotypes. The drought-responsive and rehydration-responsive genes were mainly related to photosynthesis-antenna proteins, nitrogen metabolism, plant-pathogen interactions, and the MAPK signaling pathway. Various transcription factors, including homeobox-leucine zipper protein ATHB-12, NAC transcription factor 29, and heat stress transcription factor A-6b-like, may be vital for tomato responses to water status. Moreover, 24,30-dihydroxy-12(13)-enolupinol, caffeoyl hawthorn acid, adenosine 5'-monophosphate, and guanosine were the key metabolites identified in both genotypes under drought and recovery conditions. The combined transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis highlighted the importance of 38 genes involved in metabolic pathways, the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, the biosynthesis of amino acids, and ABC transporters for tomato responses to water stress. Our results provide valuable clues regarding the molecular basis of drought tolerance and rehydration. The data presented herein may be relevant for genetically improving tomatoes to enhance drought tolerance.

Introduction: Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a novel technique for detecting pathogens. This retrospective study evaluated the diagnostic value of mNGS using plasma for infections in hematology patients and its impact on clinical treatment and prognosis in different subgroups of hematology patients. Methods: A total of 153 hematology patients with suspected infection who underwent mNGS using plasma were enrolled in the study. Their clinical histories, conventional microbiological test (CMT) results, mNGS results, treatment and prognosis were retrospectively analyzed. Results: In 153 plasma samples, mNGS yielded a higher positivity rate than CMT (total: 88.24% vs. 40.52%, P<0.001; bacteria: 35.95% vs. 21.57%, P < 0.01; virus: 69.93% vs. 21.57%, P<0.001; fungi: 20.26% vs. 7.84%, P<0.01). mNGS had a higher positivity rate for bacteria and fungi in the neutropenia group than in the non-neutropenia group (bacteria: 48.61% vs. 24.69%, P<0.01; fungi: 27.78% vs. 13.58%, P<0.05). mNGS demonstrated a greater advantage in the group of patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Both the 3-day and 7-day efficacy rates in the HSCT group were higher than those in the non-HSCT group (3-day: 82.22% vs. 58.65%, P < 0.01; 7-day: 88.89% vs. 67.31%, P < 0.01), and the 28-day mortality rate was lower in the HSCT group than in the non-HSCT group (6.67% vs. 38.89%, P < 0.000). The neutropenia group achieved similar efficacy and mortality rates to the non-neutropenia group (7-day efficiency rate: 76.39% vs. 71.43%, P > 0.05; mortality rate: 29.17% vs. 29.63%, P > 0.05) with more aggressive antibiotic adjustments (45.83% vs. 22.22%, P < 0.01). Conclusion: mNGS can detect more microorganisms with higher positive rates, especially in patients with neutropenia. mNGS had better clinical value in patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or neutropenia, which had a positive effect on treatment and prognosis.

PURPOSE: Children living with thalassemia experience psychological challenges, but despite significant psychosocial burdens, caregivers' psychological wellbeing and quality of life remain understudied, particularly in lower-and-middle-income countries. DESIGN AND METHOD: The current study evaluated these relationships in 100 male and female Pakistani caregivers (23-45 years; 61% female) using Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale and the Singapore Caregiver Quality of Life Scale. Caregivers completed questionnaires during regularly scheduled clinic visits for their child. RESULTS: We found that Pakistani caregivers in our sample generally had significantly lower (30-40 points) quality of life than a referent sample of caregivers of older adults (ps < 0.001). Self-acceptance and personal growth were consistently significant predictors across quality of life domains. Further, significant interactions were observed. Female caregivers with less self-acceptance had worse mental health and wellbeing and impact on daily life (p < .05). Male caregivers with less personal growth had worse physical health wellbeing (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate the importance of considering how distinct aspects of psychological wellbeing, rather than just the overall score, relate to the specific quality of life domains among male and female caregivers. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Pediatric nurses are at the frontline of service delivery for children and are in a prime position to observe caregivers who could be at high risk for psychological challenges. Given our findings, future clinical interventions should prioritize support services promoting personal growth and self-acceptance for Pakistani caregivers of children living with thalassemia.

Lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-encapsulated mRNA has been used for in vivo production of several secreted protein classes, such as IgG, and has enabled the development of personalized vaccines in oncology. Establishing the feasibility of delivering complex multi-specific modalities that require higher-order structures important for their function could help expand the use of mRNA/LNP biologic formulations. Here, we evaluated whether in vivo administration of mRNA/LNP formulations of SIRPα-Fc-CD40L and TIGIT-Fc-LIGHT could achieve oligomerization and extend exposure, on-target activity, and anti-tumor responses comparable to that of the corresponding recombinant fusion proteins. Intravenous infusion of the formulated LNP-encapsulated mRNAs led to rapid and sustained production of functional hexameric proteins in vivo, which increased the overall exposure relative to the recombinant protein controls by ~28-140 fold over 96 hours. High concentrations of the mRNA-encoded proteins were also observed in secondary lymphoid organs and within implanted tumors, with protein concentrations in tumors up to 134-fold greater than with the recombinant protein controls 24 hours after treatment. In addition, SIRPα-Fc-CD40L and TIGIT-Fc-LIGHT mRNAs induced a greater increase in antigen-specific CD8+ T cells in the tumors. These mRNA/LNP formulations were well tolerated and led to a rapid increase in serum and intratumoral IL-2, delayed tumor growth, extended survival, and outperformed the activities of benchmark monoclonal antibody controls. Furthermore, the mRNA/LNPs demonstrated improved efficacy in combination with anti-PD-L1 relative to the recombinant fusion proteins. These data support the delivery of complex oligomeric biologics as mRNA/LNP formulations, where high therapeutic expression and exposure could translate into improved patient outcomes.

Sodium-oxygen battery has attracted tremendous interest due to its extraordinary theoretical specific energy (1605 Wh kg-1 NaO2) and appealing element abundance. However, definite mechanistic factors governing efficient oxygen diffusion and consumption inside electrolyte-flooded air cathodes remain elusive thus precluding a true gas diffusion electrode capable of high discharge current (i.e., several mA cm-2) and superior output power. Herein, 3D-printing technology is adopted to create gas channels with tailored channel size and structure to demystify the diffusion-limited oxygen delivery process. It is revealed that as the clogging discharging products increase, large channel size, and interconnected channel structure are essential to guaranteeing fast O2 diffusion. Moreover, to further encourage O2 diffusion, a bio-inspired breathable cathode with progressively branching channels that balances between O2 passage and reaction is 3D printed. This elaborated 3D electrode allows a sodium-oxygen cell to deliver an impressive discharging current density of up to 4 mA cm-2 and an output power of 8.4 mW cm-2, giving rise to an outstanding capacity of 18.4 mAh cm-2. The unraveled mystery of oxygen delivery enabled by 3D printing points to a valuable roadmap for the rational design of metal-air batteries toward practical applications.

OBJECTIVE: To develop logistic regression nomogram and machine learning (ML)-based models to predict 3-month unfavorable functional outcome for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing reperfusion therapy. METHODS: Patients undergoing reperfusion therapy (intravenous thrombolysis and/or endovascular treatment) were prospectively recruited. Unfavorable outcome was defined as 3-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 3-6. The independent risk factors associated with unfavorable outcome were obtained by regression analysis and included in the prediction model. The performance of nomogram was assessed by the area under the curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). ML models were compared with nomogram using AUC; the generalizability of all models was ascertained in an external cohort. RESULTS: A total of 505 patients were enrolled, with 256 in the model construction, and 249 in the external validation. Five variables were identified as prognostic factors: baseline NIHSS, D-dimer level, random blood glucose (RBG), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) before reperfusion. The AUC values of nomogram were 0.865, 0.818, and 0.779 in the training set, test set, and external validation, respectively. The calibration curve and DCA indicated appreciable reliability and good net benefits. The best three ML models were extra trees (ET), CatBoost, and random forest (RF) models; all of them showed favorable discrimination in the training cohort, and confirmed in the test and external sets. CONCLUSION: Baseline NIHSS, D-dimer, RBG, BUN, and SBP before reperfusion were independent predictors for 3-month unfavorable outcome after reperfusion therapy in AIS patients. Both nomogram and ML models showed good discrimination and generalizability.

TRIB3, a pseudokinase, was previously studied within only some specific cancer types, leaving its comprehensive functions in pan-cancer contexts largely unexplored. Here, we performed an integrated analysis of TRIB3 expression, prognosis, genetic alterations, functional enrichment and tumor immune-related characteristics in 33 cancer types. Our results showed that TRIB3 exhibits high expression levels across 24 different cancer types and correlates closely with unfavorable prognoses. Meanwhile, TRIB3 shows mutations in a wide spectrum of 22 distinct cancer types, with the predominant mutation types being missense mutations and gene amplifications, and significant changes in DNA methylation levels in 14 types of cancer. We further discovered that TRIB3 expression is significantly associated with cancer immune-related genome mutations, such as tumor mutational burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI) and DNA mismatch repair (MMR), and infiltration of immunosuppressive cells, such as CD4+ Th2 cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), into the tumor microenvironment. These results indicated that the expression of TRIB3 might reshape the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and lead to immunosuppressive "cold" tumors. In addition, our results confirmed that the loss of function of TRIB3 inhibits cell proliferation, promotes apoptosis, and leads to significant enrichment of "hot" tumor-related immune pathways, at least in breast cancer cells, which further supports the important role of TRIB3 in cancer prognosis and TIME regulation. Together, this pan-cancer investigation provided a comprehensive understanding of the critical role of TRIB3 in human cancers, and suggested that TRIB3 might be a promising prognostic biomarker and a potential target for cancer immunotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of perfluoro-n-octane (PFO) for ophthalmic surgery versus F-Octane as an intraoperative tamponade in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in management of retinal detachment. METHODS: This multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-masked, parallel-controlled, non-inferiority trial was conducted in three ophthalmology clinical centers in China. Patients with retinal detachment, who were eligible for PPV were consecutively enrolled. Participants were assigned to PFO for ophthalmic surgery or F-Octane for intraocular tamponade in a 1:1 ratio. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement, and dilated fundus examination were performed preoperatively and at 1, 7±1, 28±3d postoperatively. The primary outcome was complete retinal reattachment rate at postoperative day one. The non-inferiority margin was set at 9.8%. The secondary outcomes included intraoperative retinal reattachment rate, and mean changes in IOP and BCVA from baseline to 1, 7±1, 28±3d postoperatively, respectively. Safety analyses were presented for all randomly assigned participates in this study. RESULTS: Totally 124 eligible patients completed the study between Mar. 14, 2016 and Jun. 7, 2017. Sixty of them were randomly assigned to the PFO for ophthalmic surgery group, and 64 were assigned to the F-Octane group. Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups. Both groups achieved 100% retinal reattachment at postoperative day one (difference 0, 95%CI: -6.21% to 5.75%, P=1). The pre-defined noninferiority criterion was met. No significant difference was observed in intraoperative retinal reattachment rate (difference 1.77%, P=0.61), mean changes in IOP (difference 0.36, -0.09, 2.22 mm Hg at 1, 7±1, 28±3d postoperatively, with all P>0.05) and BCVA (difference 0.04, -0.02, 0.06 logMAR at 1, 7±1, 28±3d postoperatively, all P>0.05) between the two groups. No apparent adverse events related to the utilization of PFO were reported. CONCLUSION: In patients with retinal detachment undergoing PPV, PFO for ophthalmic surgery is non-inferior to F-Octane as an intraocular tamponade, and both are safe and well-tolerated.

Lithium-oxygen batteries have one of the highest theoretical capacities and specific energies, but several challenges remain. One of them is premature death caused by a passivation layer with poor conductivities (both electronic and ionic) on the electrode surface during the discharge process. Once this thin layer forms on the surface of the catalyst and substrate, the overpotential significantly increases and causes early cell death. Therefore, understanding this thin layer is crucial to achieving high specific energy lithium-oxygen batteries. Herein, we quantitatively compared the ratio of lithium carbonate to lithium peroxide during the discharge process in a flow cell at different potentials. We found that the ratio rapidly increased at low potential and high flow rates. The surface route led to significant byproducts on the Au electrodes, and consequently, a 3 nm thick discharge product film passivates the electrode surface in a flow cell.
